      Case Studies

    • PEO DHMS

Enterprise Software Services – AMERICAN SYSTEMS is supporting PEO DHMS establish enterprise level-platform focused on continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) that can provide software integrated tools, services, and standards that enable partners and programs to develop, deploy, and operate applications in a secure, flexible and interoperable fashion. This capability will enable rapid prototyping, real-time delivery, and scalability

      Cloud Infrastructure

In support of the Defense Health Agency (DHA), AMERICAN SYSTEMS designed, built, and maintains a cloud-based development and testing infrastructure to support the transition to the Department of Defense’s (DoD) new Electronic Health Record (EHR), Military Health System (MHS) GENESIS, and provide seamless interoperability testing between DoD and Veterans Affairs. Since 2015, the Testing Infrastructure Managed Services (TIMS) team has been a successful, evolving, and essential partner in the DoD Health Care Modernization value stream. Our ITIL-based Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) service delivery model is complemented by advanced and secured technology solutions. This combination helps DHA meet their health system development and testing needs in a virtualized and scalable environment that complies with DoD cyber security requirements. Our TIMS team provides Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), network management, service desk management and cybersecurity services in hosting DoD legacy healthcare systems, technical solutions for the Defense Medical Information Exchange (DMIX), and integrated Joint Operational Medicine Information (JOMIS) systems. We also successfully perform monitoring, operations and maintenance, and support services for the PEO DHMS TI. The TI is configured with ten Production-like legacy environments to support Development, Testing, Performance product integration and test activities. These environments are setup to mimic existing legacy Clinical Systems and interface with other healthcare systems. The TIMS process and technology solutions provide virtual environments tailored to meet the growing and dynamic needs across the Military Health user community.

Platform as a Service (PaaS) for DevSecOps

Building on the success of the Testing Infrastructure Managed Service (TIMS) project, AMERICAN SYSTEMS is currently instantiating a fully automated DevSecOps Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) within the Test Infrastructure (TI). Based in Red Hat OpenShift, this platform will serve the customer with multiple Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) pipelines through which developers can rapidly build and deploy Kubernetes-based containerized applications, as well as, legacy applications in an agile development framework with built in security features that meet DoD Cyber Security requirements and provide a continuous approval to operate the environment. The PaaS is a key effort in the customer’s goals of: 1) implementing agile software development across the enterprise; 2) allowing contractors to develop rather than manage infrastructure and software tool platforms; 3) moving to an agile contracting model; and 4) leading Defense Health in the adoption of the DoD DevSecOps initiative to accelerate capability delivery to the warfighters.

      Facility for Medical Device/System Testing

On behalf of PEO DHMS AMERICAN SYSTEMS is developing a shared Government Approved Laboratory (GAL), commonly referred to as the PEO GAL. This PEO GAL will be a shared resource, provided by the PEO DHMS Chief Engineer to the DHMS PMOs and the Medical Health community at large. The PEO GAL will complement the TI and the DevSecOps PaaS by providing a modern, flexible and user agnostic test facility in the National Capital Area capable of supporting test events involving medical devices meant for deployment in fixed facilities such as hospitals, as well as operational medicine software meant in support of theater operations. The PEO GAL will be accessible to the Military Health community as a fully managed facility. The test facility will boast a large and reconfigurable test area to meet specific test events, along with conference rooms and collaboration areas. The test facility will leverage the TI to provide network connectivity and access to numerous external data sources hosted by DoD, VA and commercial entities. In addition, business class network services, such as printing, voice connectivity and wireless will be available for testers and visitors. As part of the managed services, the PEO GAL will also provide Configuration and Change Management (CCM), Access Management, Cyber Security, Asset Management, and Service Desk support.

    • USAFE/AFAFRICOM SG IM/IT Support

AMERICAN SYSTEMS provides Tier 2 Help Desk support to the US Air Force medical treatment facilities in Europe. Personnel are permanently dispersed to seven facilities in four countries and remotely support additional facilities in two more countries. We provide the onsite technical expertise to resolve issues between the many medical Program Management Office (PMO) systems and the Air Force base infrastructure. Our technicians have mastered the communication difficulties of a geographically separated team working together to achieve a unified objective of patient healthcare. In order to make the numerous varied systems more manageable, we virtualized as many servers as possible to minimize physical space, the power utilized, to improve ease of management and to ensure system up-time.

    • JOMIS

The Joint Operational Medicine Information Systems (JOMIS) Program Management Office (PMO) and the Program Executive Office (PEO) for the Defense Health Management System (DHMS) have a requirement to rapidly execute a contract to ensure continuity of their critical Theater medical systems Theater Medical Information Program – Joint (TMIP-J and associated applications within its Portfolio). These applications are critical to ensure and enable sustainability, flexibility and interoperability to maintain the continuity of care to our Warfighters. American Systems, in accordance with the Statement of Objectives for TMIP-J Continuity of Support Services, is providing in-flight transition activities for the purposes of unifying the architecture to the full complement of TMIP-J products. Our goal is to provide the suite as a fully centrally managed solution driven by outcomes rather than Government specification. The Focus is to consolidate all TMIP-J products under one centralized management team which will leverage resources across all affected products resulting in more streamlined continuities and outcomes.
